Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect?

I encourage new clients to schedule an introductory call to discuss goals, your child’s interests and any questions you have.

If you’d like to move forward, our first session will be a virtual assessment with your child to identify the foundational reading skills that need the most support. I’ll share the results and an overview of my plan for them moving forward.

Following each session, you will receive emails detailing the skills we covered. During every third session, I will do quick skills checks to determine their progress. I will also share tips and tricks for continuing to learn at home.

How much do you charge?

Pay-as-you-go sessions are $35 for 40 minutes. I offer discounted rates of $32 and $30 per 40-minute session when you purchase a one or four-month package in advance.

How long are your sessions?

I have found that it’s difficult to stay engaged for an hour-long session, even for adults! The sweet spot for reviewing previous skills, introducing a skill, modeling and practicing is 40 minutes.

How often do you recommend lessons?

I recommend two 40-minute sessions per week for my struggling readers. This is frequent enough that the lessons are fresh on their mind to aid in the retention and application of skills. However, I’m happy to accommodate your schedule and preferred frequency.

What is your approach to tutoring?

I am trained in the Science of Teaching Reading and I create lessons tailored to your child using a variety of curriculum and instruction strategies I have gained during my 10+ years of teaching. I focus on the area(s) of learning your child needs and we practice, practice, practice until it is mastered. I have found this to be the most effective way for students to retain skills. Unfortunately, teachers in school can be overwhelmed by the large number of students struggling and it can be very difficult to create lessons built solely for one student. That’s where I come in!

Do you take students from anywhere?

Yes, I do! I can teach any English-speaking student virtually and have students from all over the U.S. I use Google Meet and create fun and engaging slides to help me teach specific skills.
